Squalane is a stable, non-oxidizing form of squalene—a lipid naturally produced by human sebaceous glands that keeps the skin hydrated, soft, and resilient. Originally extracted from shark livers and later from plant sources, squalane has been a hero ingredient in premium skincare for decades. While sourcing one ton of squalane from shark livers requires approximately 3,000 sharks, plant-based alternatives like olives require 1,000 kg to produce just 2 kg.
